The Republic of the Presidio, known shorthand as the Presidio, is a presidential republic based on a a group of islands off the coastline of continent Utara. The nation was formerly known as the Arawdielli Insular Colonial Zone, a colony of the Federation of Tugal founded in January 2010 as a means to protect Tugali freighters en route to Tugali Elysium. The colony was robbed of protection from Altadenican attacks during the Valentine War after Elysion declared independence, taking the Second Fleet of Oporto Arawica (the main defensive body of Tugali Arawdiellia) with them. Doge Aguas III in Tugal refused to supply Tugali Arawdiellia with additional troops as Altadenican privateers sacked their cities time and time again.
To make a stand, governor Hardison Troit issued the Troit Proclamation on July 4 of 2010, declaring that the nation would separate from Tugal if additional protection was not provided. Tugal did not comply, and Tugali Arawdiellia separated into a new nation that aligned itself with Elysion rather than Tugal. The nation became independent on July 5, 2010, formulating its bicameral government and a new constitution with great haste.
After Tabatinia's major land acquisitions in the Continental Exchange Agreement, both the Presidio and Elysion feared for future Tabatingian incursions. The two effecively allied in the Ciudad Castillo Agreement, with Lloyesiana joining in later on.
