Ciudad Castillo (pronounced SYOO-dahd kahs-TEE-jow) (Santandían: Castle City) is the capital city of the Republic of the Presidio and the former colonial capital of Arawdielli Insular Colonial Zone, a colony of the Federation of Tugal. The city was established on the ruins of an old fortaleza named Fortaleza Velho on Archipelica Island off the coast of continent Utara. Ciudad Castillo was founded on January 27, 2010 to repulse privateers from Altadenica on continent Trinubes when the ships at Gordion Naval Installation could no longer do so without straying too far away from base.
At the time of the outbreak of the Valentine War, the city was protected by the Second Fleet of Oporto Arawica. The entire Second Fleet defected to the newly independent United Provinces of Elysion after the May 10 Tugalaise Coup, leaving Ciudad Castillo with only two battleships and a minimal number of troops for protection; Ciudad Castillo and Cidade Fortaleza were sacked time and time again by Altadenican privateers for months until Hardison Troit finally issued an ultimatum called the Troit Proclamation, which demanded a defense force at the threat of independence. Tugal failed to comply, and Tugali Arawdiellia declared its independence from the Federation of Tugal, allying with Elysion.
The city was built around Archipelicon River, a freshwater stream which meets all the water and most food-related needs of the colony, and the city is essentially self-sufficient as it is.
